I'm taking my 'little brother' fishing on Wed or Thurs. So far I'm thinking of either Fish Lake for the easy rainbow action, or Lake Lenore, for the chance of getting Josh into a big cutt. We'll be fishing from my flat transom canoe with trolling motor. (http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/sport.html)

Anyone know of another spot we should try this week?

What about lenice\nunally\merry? I have a canoe cart that helps us haul the boat down trails - but if they were too steep, narrow, or rocky, it would probably not be a good idea.

Thanks for the input,
Chad

The weeds were getting pretty bad at the Nunnally chain a couple of weeks ago, my guess it is worse now. Fish lake would be a nice choice, also nicer camping than N/L/M.

My vote is for Fish, there is always good fishing there, and you don't have to worry about a little brother and the rattlers.

That's probably where we'll head - just because I know it better and this won't be an appropriate time for exploring (I'd like him to actually catch fish...). I've only fished Lenore once and that was right in the middle of the warm spell that killed off most of the fish several years ago (I didn't know at the time). And I've never tried the 3 'quality lakes', but their on my list for this fall or next spring for sure.

I lived in Texas for a few years as a kid, and for fun I hunted cotton-mouths and other big snakes with a bb gun and sticks just for fun. Washington's rattlers are nice little snakes in comparison (: As for the ticks, I could live without those nasty critters eek

Ya otta think about Potholes also. I was there just about a week ago and did Walleye for the first time and got four. I also saw some pretty good size bow's come in and Wally's. The state park has excellent camping sites and a real good ramp. Next door is a DFW site with free camping and dirt ramps that are easy for canoe's also. It's hot though and bring the repellent. Good luck where ever you go.

Dang - looks like possible thunder storms and strong winds tomorrow on the east side. Looks like I may have to come up with a plan 'c'.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of trying Lost Lake near snoqualmie pass, silver lake in Pierce co, or maybe head down south to Kress, coldwater, etc.

If it were just me, I'd probably have to find a river to fish for steelhead and kings, but that's too hit and miss for bringing my little brother.

Kress would be a very good option. Has BIG fish, long drive though. If you want to stay close to town try Meridian in Kent or Steele in Federal Way.

Thanks Carl. I may try meridian, but really would prefer a lake that won't have jet skiers. Maybe I'll hit alice and rattlesnake...

I alway's liked Cold Water and did quite well there. Great lake with some nice fish. Peaceful and very nice, watch out for the afternoon wind's if your out in a float tube, if your using an electric motor I recommend 2 batterie's. Gold and Black color or Silver and Black color combo's seemed to work best for me. Enjoy.

Report for Thurs:

Took Josh to Silver Lake in Pierce Co. Got on the water at about 6:15am. Water was like glass. A little too much like glass. No fish jumping. Besides the one guy in the chair on the dock - no one else was fishing besides us until about the time we left - then there were 2 more boats on the water. Eventually we saw a few fish, but with no bites at all, we finally left at 8:30 and headed to Mineral Lake.

Got on the water at Mineral by 9am or so. Fished till 12:30. Winds were pretty strong the whole time. Josh and I each got an 11 or so inch brown (his first one, and my first one in about 15 yrs). We also got several small bows. There were a handful of others fishing the lake, but we did not see anyone else get into fish.

We tried a lot of things between the 2 lakes, but the best action was using very small pop gear (for josh) and I had a 2 blade indiana spinner (one gold, the other silver) - we both used a worm\salmon egg combo about 18 inches back.
